“Preserving and promoting collections: this dual responsibility is the foundation of the JRC’s activity”.
Take a behind-the-scenes look at the Mucem Conservation and Resource Center (CCR), located in the Belle de Mai district and built by the architectural firm Corinne Vezzoni et associés.
Unlike traditional museum storerooms, the CCR is a showcase rather than a vault, with four areas open to the public: an artefact consultation room, a reading room for consulting archives, the library and documentation, an exhibition room, and the show apartment, a specially converted storeroom. The Mucem library, located in the CCR, offers the possibility of borrowing or consulting some 150,000 books and magazines on France, Europe and the Mediterranean.

View objects
At the Centre de Conservation et de Ressources du Mucem (CCR), a room is dedicated to the consultation of the collections of objects conserved by Mucem.
On prior request, the objects are made available by a steward, who is on hand to answer questions, help with handling the objects or direct visitors to the relevant documentation.
Depending on the nature of the request, an appointment can also be arranged with a member of the museum’s conservation staff.Consult documentary resources
The reading room of the Centre de Conservation et de Ressources du Mucem (CCR) provides access to the Mucem archives, library and documentation.
– The archives, comprising manuscript, printed, iconographic, sound and audiovisual collections, are invaluable sources for the study of ethnology, rural and urban societies, oral literature and the performing arts.
– The library specializes in ethnology and human sciences, with over 150,000 books and journals on France, Europe and the Mediterranean. The jewel in the crown is the collection of popular prints from the 17th and 18th centuries.
– You can also consult work files and thematic, geographic and professional documentary resources related to the Mucem’s scientific fields.
