New Averroes Encounters

From Baghdad to Beirut, Charles Berberian traces the many twists and turns of his family's history through music.

Comic book artist Charles Berberian, who was born in Baghdad and grew up in Beirut, traces his family’s history as it winds its way across the Mediterranean through the generations: Egypt, Armenia, Iraq, Greece, Cyprus…

On stage, some of his drawings are projected while others take shape live, as he sketches them. At his side, singer Herminée Nurpetlian and Lebanese musician Charbel Haber accompany him on this journey. Together, they create a vibrant and generous performance, where images and music are invented in the moment and where personal stories intertwine with the broader history of the Mediterranean.

A poignant portrayal of exile and multiple identities.

A musical and illustrated reading by Charles Berberian. As part of “Franchir / s’affranchir,” a special edition of the Nouvelles Rencontres d’Averroès featuring L’Orient-Le Jour, and the 2026 Mediterranean Season.

A bar and light meals are available on site starting at 7 p.m.
