The collections relating to the performing arts are vast and are amongst the museum’s original collections. The very first piece acquired by the museum (in 1881!) was, in fact, a drum. Those collections, with their nearly 35,000 pieces, relate to the most varied of domains: circus and carnival arts, dance, puppetry, automatons, music and song, and bull-fighting.
