From 1980 to 2007, an average of 71,000 industrial jobs were lost each year in France.
Linked to offshoring and labor mobility, the history of industry is thus closely intertwined with that of migration. This study day aims to examine the connections between work, migration, and deindustrialization, from the 1960s to the present. Drawing on historical, sociological, and heritage perspectives, it will examine the experiences of those who worked in industry, as well as the ways in which these experiences are passed down across generations and preserved as cultural heritage.
