The Great Kami

En Ribambelle! Festival

  • Young Audiences

In Japan, the Kami embodies the spirit of fresh water.

During this poetic and interactive performance, he comes to life as a giant rattan puppet, delicately manipulated by three performers. The great Kami wanders across the Place d’Armes at Fort Saint-Jean, where his presence—both benevolent and serene—captivates the audience. His story then unfolds: having become too dry, he has lost his plant essence and seems to be seeking refuge, a return to nature. His gaze shifts between the sea in the distance and the plant life in the Jardin des Migrations.

All around him, “stimulators” and their globols—tiny luminous beings with heads filled with water—offer him fragments of moss. The audience is invited to participate in this symbolic revegetation by placing moss on his structure. Little by little, the Kami awakens, and a flock of birds takes flight, bringing this poetic dance between humanity and nature to a close. An immersive experience where emotion and movement celebrate sensitivity and a reconnection with the living world.
