Explore textiles and the living traditions of boutis and indigo dyeing, and learn the basics of Provençal embroidery!
As part of the Tangible festival, which celebrates the many forms of design in Marseille and throughout the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolitan area, the Itinérance association is organizing half-day guided tours and workshops in the heart of the Mucem’s Conservation and Resource Center’s storage facilities.
The “Matrimoine textile en Provence” project invites you to explore the textiles and techniques found in the collections, archives, and living traditions of boutis and indigo dyeing. Discover a selection of archival pieces, curated by the museum’s curators, as well as the documentation work of the Itinérance association, featuring photographs from the Provence edition and pieces currently in the making! Guided by the boutis artisans, you can then learn the techniques of Provençal embroidery during a workshop.
From October 19 to 25, the Mucem Conservation and Resource Center will host an exhibition in its library featuring documentation from the “Provence” edition, along with photographs taken by Itinérance.
The library is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to the public without registration.
