In the first session, we'll be looking back at how the act of the hand and the body's engagement with the land and living matter, through the artistic act and gardening, create a potential network of social relationships, and even a fabric of urbanity.
General introduction to the seminar, by Jean-Marc Besse, Eugénie Denarnaud, Joëlle Zask
Session moderated by Eugénie Denarnaud
Guests:
Stephen Rostain, archaeologist, director of research, CNRS, title: “The ‘gardens’ of Amazonia”.
A member of the Archéologie des Amériques laboratory at CNRS and Panthéon-Sorbonne University, he is a research director at CNRS and the first French archaeologist to specialize in the Amazon, where he has lived part of his life. In 2022, thanks to fieldwork coupled with LIDAR technology, he discovered a network of “garden cities” in the Upano valley in Ecuador. He is particularly interested in landscape analysis and pre-Columbian earthworks, as well as ethnoarchaeology.
Fabien Léaustic, artist-researcher at ENS Arts décoratifs de Paris, title: “Monoliths: sharing matter between plants and human beings”.
Fabien Léaustic conducts research at the intersection of the arts, sciences and contemporary anthropology. His artistic commitment to reconciling environmental, social and subjective ecologies has made him a benchmark in the field of artistic practices that integrate the living, eco-design and valorization of the various players involved in his creative process.
