Short Film Screening #3

Aflam Festival 2026

A Closer Look at the WarshatAflam Writing Residency.

During this session, three short films developed during previous editions of this residency will be screened in the presence of Aida Kaadan and Ahmed Essam Soliman. This will be an opportunity for these filmmakers to present their films and discuss their experiences and the support they received from Aflam in making their films.

Short films:

  • Another Day Shall Come

An audiovisual portrait of Palestinians living in Israel, *Another Day Shall Come* gives a voice to those whose stories often go unheard.

Through a mosaic of anonymous voice messages, the film weaves an intimate narrative of life under colonization, navigating feelings of erasure, memory, and resistance.

By Aida Kaadan (Palestine, Qatar, Lebanon, 2026, 20’) – Experimental documentary

  • Of Burning Memories and Wounds

Noura, thirty years old, sees her life turned upside down when she discovers she is pregnant. As she grapples with her desire to start a family, she cares for Anise, a 70-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, whose memories of motherhood are gradually fading.

Through the bond that unites these two women, the film delicately explores the themes of memory, legacy, and the choices that shape a life.

By Suha Belal (Egypt, 2025, 18’) – Fiction
Starring: Menha El Batraoui, Maher El Sharnouby, Lolia Hesham.

  • Dear Hussein

Ahmed and Hussein, two young filmmakers from Alexandria, are bound by a deep friendship and a shared passion for cinema. In January 2024, Hussein is unjustly imprisoned for political reasons. Despite the prison walls, a secret exchange takes place:

Ahmed sends her audio cassettes capturing the outside world, while Hussein responds with handwritten letters from his cell, keeping their connection alive.

By Ahmed Essam Soliman (Egypt | 2026, 15’) – Documentary
