Learn the iconic steps of coupé-décalé with Joël Tenda
Born in the early 2000s within the Ivorian diaspora, coupé-décalé blends traditional Ivorian zouglou and Congolese ndombolo with the beats of European DJs. Spectacular, rhythmic, and deeply rooted in celebration and performance, it stands out for its energy, the speed of its steps, and its playful spirit, with constant interaction between male and female dancers, the music, and the audience. Artists regularly create new steps called “concepts,” fueling a dynamic practice in which improvisation plays a central role.
This workshop invites you to discover the signature moves of this style and to try your hand at improvisation, in a collaborative spirit reminiscent of the energy found in battles or dance circles.
