Festival des Sciences et des Arts 2025 - "Science and Belief

  • Conference-
  • Round table-
  • Show-
  • MucemLab

From September 16 to 20, 2025, the 6ᵉ edition of the Festival of Science and the Arts is part of the international Stand up for Science movement, which defends the integrity of research in the face of the threats of misinformation. Echoing this initiative, amU welcomes researchers in difficulty with the Safe place for science program, offering residencies to American scientists.

This year’s festival explores the relationship between science and belief. These are indeed two ways of understanding the world which, far from being opposed, have often interacted. While international scientific collaboration has intensified since the end of the XXᵉ century, and overall confidence in science is holding steady in France, social networks are giving rise to increased mistrust, particularly among young adults, weakened by the Covid-19 crisis. Rehabilitating doubt as a driving force for knowledge and shedding light on the roots of belief are now two inseparable approaches. Against this backdrop, the festival aims to strengthen the dialogue between disciplines, researchers and artists, around fundamental questions: how can we think together about the scientific approach and cultural imagination? Is scientific rationality compatible with uncertainty? Why do some citizens give so much credence to conspiracy theories in the digital age?

The festival is organized in conjunction with the “Lire le ciel” exhibition at the Mucem since July 2025, and in partnership with the special issue of 1Hebdo Qui veut la peau de la science? to be published in September 2025.
