Circulation, color contrast, sensory devices... Mucem makes sure that visitors with visual impairments have a comfortable and accessible experience.

The presence of a companion is strongly recommended.
Visually impaired visitors can borrow magnifying glasses free of charge from the checkroom.
Assistance dogs and canes with mouthpieces are allowed in the museum.
Mucem offers visually impaired visitors the chance to discover temporary exhibitions during audio-description guided tours, which can be accompanied by multi-sensory devices.
Souffleurs d’Images is a free, personalized accessibility service offering visually impaired and blind people access to the cultural event of their choice within our network of partners. The volunteer, an art student, cultural professional or artist, describes and blows to a visually impaired or blind person, the elements that are invisible to him or her, for the duration of an exhibition or show.
At the Mucem, Souffleurs d’image allows you to enjoy the cultural program or discover the exhibitions either with the help of sensory tours and audiodescriptions, or in support of the guided tours offered by Mucem guides.
The meeting place will be arranged by the volunteer blower and the person being accompanied.
Designed to meet the needs of visually impaired and blind visitors, the trails are integrated into the permanent exhibits and accessible to all visitors. Each tactile object is accompanied by a text in large print and Braille.
These routes can be explored during a guided tour or every day with the audioguide. The audioguide is loaned free of charge to visually impaired visitors at the Mucem main ticket office. Audio-described content can also be downloaded prior to the visit, enabling visitors to use their own listening equipment.
Alternatively, they can be viewed on your phone or tablet via the free webapp visit.mucem.org.
Throughout the ” Populaire? ” exhibition, a multi-sensory tour for the general public, accessible to people with visual, motor and mental disabilities, punctuates the visit.
It’s a sensitive, poetic device made up of 7 stations in a retro universe, inviting visitors to discover and handle the collection of a fictional character, the eccentric collector. Travel souvenirs, films, masks… as the character gleans his finds, everyone can discover or rediscover the popular imagination associated with everyday objects that have become emblematic, a sort of “Proust’s madeleines” that awaken emotions, sensations and memories.

The sensory tour of the ” Méditerranées” exhibition features an introductory station and tactile interpretations of five major themes in the exhibition.

The audioguide features audio-description for in-depth reading of the elements of the tactile tours. It has been designed for easy use by the visually impaired.
