Plus jamais seul poursuit le cycle des expositions de La maison rouge consacrées aux collections privées. Après Arnulf Rainer (2005) et Jean-Jacques Lebel (2009), la fondation invite pour la troisième fois un artiste à mettre en regard son travail avec les œuvres et objets qu’il a collectés. Figure incontournable de la scène artistique française et acteur majeur de la Figuration Libre, Hervé Di Rosa s’est engagé à partir des années 1980 dans la reconnaissance et la promotion de l’« art modeste », qu’il définit lui-même comme « proche de l’art populaire, de l’art primitif, de l’art brut » tout en ne s’y réduisant pas. Il a depuis rassemblé des quantités de livres, bandes dessinées, fanzines, figurines ou jouets qui infusent sa propre pratique de plasticien, tout comme les œuvres, objets et savoir-faire divers et nombreux qu’il glane partout dans le monde. L’exposition de La maison rouge et le catalogue qui l’accompagne couvrent les développements, pour certains encore méconnus, du travail d’Hervé Di Rosa, des années 1980 à aujourd’hui, et mettent en évidence la place centrale des voyages et des collections d’arts modestes dans sa démarche artistique. Ils sont aussi l’occasion de présenter le travail accompli au sein du Musée International des Arts Modestes (MIAM) que Di Rosa a créé en 2000 à Sète, sa ville natale. As before, the foundation has invited himtojuxtapose his own work with the objects he has collected. A key figure on the French art scene and leading protagonist of Figuration Libre, in the1980sHervé Di Rosa began championing « modest art », which he defines as something « close to popular art, to tribal art » but not limited to either. Since then, he has gathered huge amounts of comic books, catalogues, fanzines, figurines and toys, which sometimes find their way into his own artistic practice, as well as all kinds of craft objects that he has gleaned while travelling the world and exploring crafts and skills. The exhibition at La maison rouge and accompanying catalogue range over the work done by Hervé Di Rosa from his early days up to the present, and show several little-known aspects of his art while bringing out the centrality of his travel and collecting of modest art to his artistic process. This is also an opportunity to present the work done by the Musée International des Arts Modestes (MIAM), which Di Rosa created in his hometown of Sète in 2000.
