Il s'agit d'une aquarelle peinte sur un support en papier de forme rectangulaire. L'illustration représente un portrait d'un lapon norvégien de face. Il est représenté dans un léger trois-quart et en buste. Il porte un costume traditionelle de couleur bleu et fume la pipe. En dessous figure une série d'inscriptions.
