By supporting the Mucem in the fall of 2018 for the production of the exhibition “Georges Henri Rivière. To See Is to Understand,” LVMH demonstrates its deep commitment to the life and work of one of the leading figures in the humanities of the 20th century, Georges Henri Rivière.

Through his essential contribution to the development of ethnology and museology, through his in-depth analysis of cultures and artisanal skills, through the special ties he forged between art and science, and through his friendship with the greatest artists of his time, Picasso and Léger in particular, Georges Henri Rivière helped bring Humanism into the modern era.

By 2020, LVMH will mark a new milestone in its commitment to culture with the creation of the “Maison LVMH / Arts – Talents – Patrimoine” in the heart of the Bois de Boulogne, right next to the Louis Vuitton Foundation. To this end, Frank Gehry, architect of the Louis Vuitton Foundation, and Thomas Dubuisson have been commissioned to completely renovate the building designed by Jean Dubuisson for the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions, founded by Georges Henri Rivière. Within the new spaces of the “Maison LVMH,” the dialogue among artisans, artists, talented individuals, and members of the intellectual and scientific communities from all walks of life will take on new meaning and new life, while never forgetting the pivotal role played by Georges Henri Rivière in the 20th century.
