The Garden of Migrations

An Ethnobotanical Tour at the Mucem

Located at the entrance to the Port of Marseille, within the walls of Fort Saint-Jean, the Jardin des Migrations offers a journey of discovery through the history of Mediterranean vegetation and its uses. Created in 2013, it is part of the Mucem project and illustrates the intermingling of cultures, people, and plants around the Mediterranean. Structured in two parts, this publication combines, on the one hand, a beautifully illustrated book featuring numerous photographs that trace the garden’s origins, its distinctive features, and how it is maintained; and, on the other hand, a sketchbook presenting its fifteen plant islands.
