Lisa Vereertbrugghen – CAMPO Ghent

A first in France

Five women create a space for joy and encounters in their relationships and physical interactions. Lisa Vereertbrugghen draws them into a powerful hardcore wave and immerses the audience in an immersive device. The frenzy becomes contagious, revealing the timeless desire to dance together…

It was in Amsterdam that the Flemish choreographer tried her hand at hardcore techno to “challenge herself to go faster”, shake up her habits and get out of her comfort zone. She quickly focused on details, “zooming in on what is most often neglected in this practice: the neck, the hands, the face, the elbows”… From the little finger to the legs, every movement counts. Then she decided to take the hardcore of the clubs to the stage in a variety of formats, between performance, sound and installation. And she devotes herself to poetic and learned exploration in collective shows that create communities. Aware of the need to dance together since the dawn of time, she interweaves hardcore rave and folk dances to give life in While we are here – her first group piece – to a hybrid techno-folk dance. It features motifs borrowed from folk dances, taken up in chorus by five extraordinary dancers. Powerful pounding of the feet on the floor, frenetic footwork, liberated body and mind, they celebrate the joy of surpassing oneself, the strength of the collective carried along in a rhythmic complexity whose every vibration is felt by the audience.
