Virility: pride or burden?

Les procès du siècle - Feminism, gender, minorities

  • Debate-
  • Meeting

With Olivia Gazalé (philosopher) and Laurent Metterie (director)
Moderation: Tewfik Hakem.
With the participation of Justine Bohbote, heritage curator, head of the Sport and Health department at Mucem.

From bad boys to Timothée Chalamet, what does it mean to be a man in the 21st century? How do you “stay a man” when so-called “manly” values (physical strength, courage, sexual potency) are under attack in the age of #Me Too? But do we really need to banish them altogether?
Faced with the advance of feminist thinking and the deconstruction of the myth of virility, how can we build a new masculinity? What qualities should be asserted and transmitted? And whose fault is that? Women’s emancipation? To a duty of virility that is proving to be a burden?
