
The (re-)mediation of BnF and Mucem collections. The multiple materialities of documentary collections and the practices they reveal
How can sign language, an eminently embodied and dynamic practice, be translated into text and fixed images? What does it mean for the archive to create an iconographic database from manuscripts from different eras and cultural areas? How are Gallica’s collections used by audiences who download large numbers of colonial fonds, rearrange them and display them on private sites? How can the thematic sites produced by Mucem in the 2000s be presented and used?
These issues raise the question of heritage media and the (re-)mediation of practices incorporated into paper, of fragments assembled into a whole, of photos in drawings…
