Non-mixing” is the creation of spaces reserved for a category of people who consider themselves oppressed or discriminated against, excluding the participation of people belonging to other groups considered potentially discriminating (or oppressive).
This practice, used in particular by certain feminist, anti-racist and LGBT movements, is said to liberate speech and encourage emancipation by creating safe spaces, where social pressure is suspended for the duration of a meeting. But it is also the subject of debate: by excluding certain categories of people, doesn’t non-mixity create new inequalities? New forms of discrimination?
The Trial of the Century puts non-mixed people on the stand in a 100% mixed-gender event!
