Rebuilding ties, reinventing democracy

To mark the launch of its Labo Nord-Portes de l’Europe, the Innovation for Democracy Foundation, in partnership with Mucem, Campus AFD and Je m’engage pour l’Afrique, is organizing a day of reflection on the theme: “Reweaving ties, reinventing democracy”.

This day will provide an opportunity to take a critical, forward-looking look at the possibility of substantive democracy – and therefore of ties that liberate – in the age of populism, neo-sovereignism and global fracturing. Are deliberation and representation the only cornerstones of democracy? What about care, recognition and, above all, connection and relationship? What links can we (re)weave to (re)give meaning to democracy, and hence to a certain idea of the en-commun? Is the universal the last word on this common ground? Or should we look elsewhere for the ingredients of a new planetary consciousness? The ethics of care, the power of the imaginary, the place of shared histories in the construction of a common world and the conditions of possibility for a new planetary consciousness will be at the heart of the dialogues.

With : Mehdi Alioua, Tanella Boni, Hemley Boum, Souleymane Bachir Diagne, Yasmine Chami, Cynthia Fleury, Raphaël Imbert, Marielle Macé, Nadine Machikou, Claire Marin, Achille Mbembé, Mathieu Potte Bonneville, Felwine Sarr
