Plant Festival

Every spring, the Mucem celebrates its garden with the Fête des plantes: a weekend of workshops, events and a large market focusing on ecology and the protection of living organisms.

A veritable showcase garden, the Garden of Migrations takes visitors on a journey of discovery through the history of Mediterranean vegetation and its uses. It illustrates the intermingling of cultures in the Mediterranean and tells the story of the bond that has united people and plants for millennia.

An organic and Mediterranean plant market

Throughout the weekend, a dozen nursery gardeners specializing in Mediterranean gardening and agroecology will be offering plants and botanical advice at an astonishing plant market nestling in the courtyard of the Commande.

Unlike conventional plant markets, all the producers selected are committed to organic farming and the protection of living organisms.

The public will be able to find a range of Mediterranean plants: cacti, perennials, herb and vegetable plants, tree shoots, potted roses, fig trees, seeds…

A farmers’ and designers’ market

The Mucem is also inviting local and regional craftspeople who work in harmony with biodiversity. Herbariums, floral waters and cosmetics, wickerwork, dried flowers, plant dyes, specialized books… Visit Place d’Armes to extend the world of plants and gardening!

Snacks (organic and vegetarian) on site.

Activities, guided tours and gardening and herbalism workshops

Finally, nature-lovers young and old can take part in guided tours of the garden and ethnobotanical walks, as well as compost and other practical and awareness-raising workshops organized by Mucem, the Parc national des Calanques and Les Petits Débrouillards.
