Nasreddine

En Ribambelle!

Storytelling, object theater and puppets, ages 7 and up.

Compagnie Viens Voir en Face

He’s an odd fellow who wanders through life in the wrong direction. Is he wise? Is he mad? Where logic would see only two possible paths, Nasreddine always finds a way to catch reality and turn it inside out, like turning a garment inside out.

In this show, a comical duo manipulating masks and objects invites us to explore the headless, poetic universe of this emblematic Sufi character. Nasreddine is the man who can say anything because people don’t take him seriously. Under the guise of nonsense, he embodies the challenge to the established order, tyranny and stupidity.

The Viens Voir en Face company has immersed itself in this treasure trove of Oriental heritage, translating some of its stories into a language halfway between the spoken word and contemporary puppetry. At the heart of this visual script is the worn mask, a type of body puppet for which the company proposes a singular approach, creating hybrid creatures endowed with astonishing expressivity.
