Guided Tour

Crossing the large commercial port

La traversée du grand port de commerce

Come aboard the Hélios (Sunday morning) and the Revellta (Saturday morning) from the Mucem quay, accompanied by a guide, and discover Marseille’s port history and heritage. This boat trip will introduce you to an industrial landscape as spectacular as it is little-known.

Did you know that the commercial port is home to one of the world’s largest ship repair facilities? Did you know that today, a large part of the world’s data is housed in its heart?

We’ll look at the history of the port’s transformation and its different stages: its birth when the port was the city, its rapid growth in the age of industrialization with the appearance of the docks and the creation of the Fos-sur-Mer industrial-port complex, its difficulties during the oil crisis, not forgetting the present and the future at a time of reconversions.

On the outskirts of Estaque, the boat will approach the docks to see the activity of the container ships and their gigantic gantries.

In addition to the history of the port, this journey will tell the story of the urban transformation underway in the nearby neighborhoods, which are recovering from a serious industrial crisis and whose new vocation is under construction.
