Coming back. Making experience work
How do you inhabit a land that has been left behind, lost, destroyed or forbidden? How do you pass on the desire to be at home in a situation of exile? What does it mean to receive it as an inheritance? Is returning (im)possible?
The questions at the heart of the exhibition Revenir, first emerged in an ethnographic context, before being deployed on a wider scale, in a museum register carried by the survey-collection “Retours et migrations en Méditerranée”, initiated by the Mucem research department in 2019. This has been enriched by cartographic work, accompanied by the setting up of a loan scheme, placed at the heart of our re-research approach, and completed by artistic creations combining quest and inquiry. The aim of this study day is to pursue the discussions initiated during regular exchanges with the fieldworkers, investigators, lenders and artists, with the ambition of creating a space of shared self-authority.
