Chinese Man Records presents... Mawi / LeonxLeon / Rebequita
Tonight, dance the night away with artists from Chinese Man Records on the Fort Saint-Jean dance floor!
Chez Merwan will be on hand with chawarma, falafel and manakich, and Bordeline will be at the bar!
7pm Mawi
A DJ from Toulouse by birth but Marseilles by adoption, her musical mixes vary between several melodic styles.
If her ear leans primarily towards UK and bass music, she knows how to climb into the bpms for more drums, booty and ghetto finishes. There are also sounds of Afro, baile and trap bangers.
Mawi draws his influences from major labels such as Soulection, Ed Bangers and Nina Tune. Kaytranada, Sango, Herr Frank, Oden & Fatzo and Bellaire are all regulars on his headphones. But artists such as Eargasm God, Mr Carmack, Troyboi and Jarreau Vandal are also regular guests.
8:30 pm LeonxLeon
A doctor by day and musician by night, LeonxLeon has been producing tracks in his Paris home studio since 2013, where Italian-disco, acid, house and many other sunny influences meet.
With a background as a jazz drummer and a father who built his own synthesizers as early as the 1970s, he didn’t have to look far before taking the plunge. As a tribute, he used one of those synthesizers on a track from his Rokanbo EP, out in 2019 on Cracki records, mixing his Italo-disco, house and boogie inspirations with new, more tropical sounds, even downright zouk.
Organizer of numerous Parisian parties, he also helped found the edits label Good Plus and the Les Yeux Orange project.
Also to his credit are remixes by Cerrone, collaborations with the legendary Black Devil Disco Club and Agar Agar, and a love affair dating back to his early days with Manchester label Red Laser Disco, for whom he signed several tracks on various and his first EP in 2017.
In 2023, again on Cracki, he released Itanewa, a 5-track EP with a single straight from South Africa, inspired by the synthetic productions that proliferated there in the late 80s. The rest of the EP features more sounds than ever before, from samples of the 1992 film Leon to 90s dance harmonies.
9:45 pm Rebequita
Resident DJ at Rinse France, Rebequita has quickly carved out a place for herself on the Paris scene. For the past two years, she has been playing dates in France, Spain and Mexico, and collaborating with brands and numerous collectives. Last summer, she made her festival debut at the legendary Lollapalooza and Les Ardentes.
Rebequita shapes her sets in the image of her personality: creative and uninhibited. Reggaeton, baile, dembow and bass are all part of her selecta, which she constantly enriches with new genres, without ever losing sight of her leitmotiv: to shake up the lines of the night she imagines to be safe, vibrant and warm.
Chinese Man Records
Based in Marseille, Chinese Man Records (CMR) is a music label founded in 2004 by the international hip-hop & electro group Chinese Man. Over the years, many artists have joined the label’s catalog: Baja Frequencia, ASM, Youthstar, Matteo, Rumble, BOLD, Sims x May Din, RASA and more recently Isadora.
The label, which has remained independent since its creation, continues to produce its artists’ albums and tours, both in France and internationally (South America, Asia, USA, Canada). With over 80 titles to its name, this label with its hip-hop and electro roots is expanding its productions to include everything from trip-hop and bass music to reggae, moombahton and neo soul.
