Building a medieval castle: Guédelon

Festival of Vocations

Master class

By Florian Renucci (Guédelon’s master builder) and his craftsmen

In 1998, there was only a forest. 25 years later, the castle is here, with its towers, loopholes, lord’s chamber and chapel decorated with frescoes in the colors of yesteryear… The challenge was crazy: to build a 13th-century castle using only materials found on site, and tools made on site, using techniques of that time! Initiated by Maryline Martin, this fabulous collective adventure draws inspiration from yesterday’s world to better build tomorrow’s.
