A Sunday in Tangier: Rock the Casbah

Ciné-dimanche

By Laïla Marrakchi (France / Morocco, 2012, 1h40)

With Hiam Abbass, Omar Sharif, Morjana Alaoui

Screening followed by a discussion with director Laïla Marrakchi and film critic Jade Moreau.

It’s summer in Tangier. Following the death of their father, a family gathers in the family home to reminisce and share their loss, in keeping with Muslim tradition. It’s time to leave the beaches and bathing suits behind and don djellabas, to bring everyone together and make the house feel like a funeral. The excitement is at its peak, especially as this man has left behind nothing but women. Everything is about to change with the arrival of Sofia, the last of the girls, the one who has made her life elsewhere. An actress who only plays terrorists in American TV series, she arrives from New York after several years’ absence…

Screening in conjunction with the exhibition “Revenir – Expériences du retour en Méditerranée”.

At the end of the session, extend the experience in the forum to discuss the film and taste a Mediterranean specialty: musical atmosphere, board games and workshops to boot!
