A Sunday in Istanbul: Crossing the Bridge

Crossing the Bridge, the sound of Istanbul by Fatih Akin, 1h30, Germany, Turkey, 2005

With the participation of Mireille Jacotin, heritage curator at Mucem.

Alexander Hacke, a musician in a German avant-garde band for over twenty years, arrives in Istanbul to compose the music for the film Head-on. There, he meets the members of a neo-psychedelic band, the Baba Zula. When their bassist leaves them, they ask Alexander to replace her. He accepts and tries to capture Istanbul’s musical diversity, integrating it into his music and bringing it to the world.

The 27th edition of the Festival International Music & Cinema Marseille will be held from March 30 to April 4, 2026.

The session then continues in the forum, providing an opportunity to discuss the film while enjoying a Mediterranean specialty, to the accompaniment of music and board games!

  • Valérie Manteau - writer

    Valérie Manteau is a writer and journalist. She is the author of several novels. In 2016, she published an autobiographical story, Calme et tranquille, published by Editions du Tripode, which recounts the eruption of violence in the life of a young woman.

    Between 2015 and 2017, she lived between Marseille and Istanbul. A story follows, that of a committed young woman who moves to Istanbul to join a lover. In the course of her wanderings, she discovers the story of Hrant Dink, an Armenian journalist from Turkey murdered in 2007 for defending an ideal of peace. This autobiography, entitled Le Sillon (ed. Le Tripode), was awarded the Prix Renaudot in 2018.

    Entre chiens et loups (ed. Stock, 2025) is his latest work, a four-month literary dive into the Mazan affair.

  • Boris Henry - Moderator

    Boris Henry has a PhD in “Lettres et Arts” and specializes in the filmmaker Tod Browning. He has been a lecturer in film history and analysis since 2008 (Aix-Marseille Université, Université du Temps Libre).

    As a writer, trainer and educationalist, he also regularly organizes meetings and introductory workshops in image analysis, feature writing and film presentation.
