Diversity and Equality Labels

The Mucem has been awarded the AFNOR Diversity and Gender Equality label.

Sensitive to the momentum generated by the French Ministry of Culture, the Musem, a place for mixing, exchanging and debating social issues, applied individually in 2018 for the dual AFNOR certification process for diversity and professional equality between women and men, and was awarded both labels, granted for 4 years. The AFNOR certification commissions were sensitive to the actions put in place for staff and audiences, and to the quality of the programming in a quest for diversity and gender equality.

At the beginning of 2022, the Musem wished to pursue this policy by applying for the renewal of these two labels: through this double labeling process, on the eve of its 10th anniversary, the Musem reaffirms its commitments and places the prevention of discrimination and the promotion of professional equality between women and men among the priority axes of its development. Both labels were renewed at the beginning of 2023 for 4 years.

The professional equality index

In accordance with Decree no. 2023-1136 of December 5, 2023 on the measurement and reduction of pay gaps between women and men in the French state civil service, Mucem is publishing the average score obtained for 2023 on the professional equality index. This 62/100 score breaks down as follows: 46/80 for equivalent categories, 16/20 for the highest-paid positions(decree of April 30, 2012 referred to above).

These results for the year 2023 include 51% of the establishment’s staff, since civil servants working at the MUCEM are included in the workforce of the Ministry of Culture, which oversees the MUCEM.

Advancing equality between women and men is an integral part of the strong, lasting momentum generated by the Musem’s inclusive HR policy, notably through the range of measures implemented to obtain the Afnor Diversity and Gender Equality labels, such as the quality and monitoring of recruitment procedures, integration, human resources management, team diversification, staff training in the fight against discrimination and sexual and sexist harassment, and the implementation of a professional equality plan for men and women.

Mucem opened its doors in 2013, and many of our staff have been with us since the opening. Career development and promotions take place over time, as positions evolve, people leave and new missions are organized. In 2024, Mucem recruited a new Scientific Director of Collections and a General Administrator.

Promoting parity in appointments, promotions and recruitment will remain a priority, as it is already the case in our social and statutory bodies, as well as in our programming.
