Un officier portant une barbe converse avec un soldat se tenant face à lui. Ils sont arrêtés les pieds dans l'eau d'une mare, tandis qu'au loin, on aperçoit, de dos, un autre soldat ainsi qu'un quatrième individu poursuivant leur route. Les trois militaire portent des sac à dos et sont armés de fusils.
