La fondation "Projet des NOMS des Pays-Bas" ("Stichting NAMEN project Nederland" en néerlandais et "NAMES Project Netherlands Foundation" en anglais) est l’émanation néerlandaise du AIDS memorial quilt (son autre nom est le "Dutch Aids memorial quilt"), créé aux Etats-Unis en 1987. L’AIDS memorial quilt est un monument communautaire, composé de patchwork commémorant les morts du sida. Chaque patchwork (que l’on appelle également un bloc) est une association de 8 panneaux individuels de 1,80 m x 0,90 créés individuellement et cousus ensemble pour former un carré de 3,80 m x 3,80 m. Chaque panneau rend hommage à une personne décédée du sida. Les associations du mémorial aids font participer les bénévoles des communautés concernées par l'épidémie à l'activité de fabrication de panneaux et le déploiement de ces patchworks fait partie d'un rituel de deuil.
