Companion and accomplice to our daily existence, the paradox insidiously inhabits our lives, our social relationships, our environment, our thoughts, our acts... It is the opposite of conventional wisdom, prejudices and logical certitudes… at the same time it contributes to the emergence of the latter. The paradox is a connection, a place of encounter, a space for debate, a point of articulation… a motor and the very essence of every act of creation…The artist cultivates paradox as a tool for exploration, research and discovery, which stimulates, opens and limits at the same time. Generator of tensions, even torsions, the paradox enables him to “de-construct” in order to better “re-construct” and thereby reconsider his relationship to the world and to society. The paradox incites, tempers and provides scale, adapting the work of creation.
It is through these transformations that the work of the artist can be freed from the artist himself (and vice-versa), to make it visible, to enter into the exchange and open up to the other. The work born from this process is not in itself an illustration, nor a response, but it introduces an ambiguous feeling; each image, each idea, can be at once unique and multiple, itself and its opposite, and reveal precisely this strange paradox, this equivocal sentiment... The artist, through this process of artistic creation itself, proposes a particular way of feeling things, of being positioned in society, of regarding the world. It is this attitude of the artist, this particular way of falling into the contexts with which he is confronted, that wants to explore this “Passerelle Artistique – Artistic Bridge” by reciprocally examining the place of society on the work of the artist and the role that he thinks, hears or would like to have in society.
