»Have a look into my life!« is a new expression of cultural artistry and a collaborative initiative celebrating the peace, solidarity and integration which inspire us all. Though contemporary Roma art, we are introduced to the insufficiently known vitality of the Romani language and the richness of Roma culture. Enabling our societies to remain ethnically and culturally diverse is crucial in the promotion of sustainable democratic societies. The Council of Europe and its member States are working towards the promotion of respect for diversity and fostering a culture of tolerance and better understanding. Despite some progress, the integration of Roma in their societies remains a challenge for our member States. In this respect, meaningful educational approaches to removing stereotypes and prejudices about Roma are crucial. It is important to educate societies about the historic persecution of Roma, including the Genocide of up to 1.5 million Roma during the Second World War, and to raise awareness of the contemporary manifestations of discrimination and marginalisation. The Council of Europe Dosta! Campaign, through which this exhibition has been developed, is an effective tool to break down stereotypes and prejudices by facilitating a better understanding of the Roma and their culture and encouraging active participation in l he realisation of their human rights. We have a duty to restore the heritage of Roma, who must be treated as our fellow European citizens and not as a socially marginalised group. I am therefore grateful to the City of Graz for initiating this solidarity and awareness-raising project. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the City of Strasbourg, the Dosta! Campaign, the European Roma and Travellers Forum, the Austrian Federal Chancellery, the Austrian Federal Ministry for European Integration and Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Representation of Austria lo the Council of Europe and the European Alliance of Cities and Regions for Roma inclusion, for supporting this inspiring initiative. Das ist das Ziel der Ausstellung, zu der ich alle Interessierten herzlich willkommen heiße. Graz, die Stadt im Süden Österreichs, versteht sich als Kultur– und Bildungshauptstadt der Europaregion » Pannonien-Alpe -Adria«. Graz ist seit 2001 UNO -Menschenrechtsstadt und seit der Gründung von ECCAR Vorstandsmitglied der Europäischen Städtekoalition gegen Rassismus. Aus diesem Selbstverständnis entstehen politische Leitmotive für Graz, die wir sehr ernst nehmen. Das ungelöste Problem der Integration von Roma in einzelnen EU-Mitgliedsstaaten, in denen sie seit Jahrhunderten eine Minderheit darstellen, und die große soziale Not, unter welcher diese Bevölkerungsgruppe leidet, ist ein Stachel in Europa, der endlich gemeinsam angegangen werden muss. Die Ausstellung soll ein neuerlicher Anstoß dazu sein, und sie soll in dieser Periode des Vorsitzes Österreichs im Europarat auch ein Angebot unsererseits sein, für internationale Gespräche und Diskussionen als Plattform und Drehscheibe zur Verfügung zu stehen! Mein Dank gilt den Kuratorinnen sowie den Künstlerinnen und Künstlern für die Einblicke, die unseren Horizont für ihr kulturelles Erbe erweitern. Ainsi, depuis novembre 2013, je suis heureux que la Ville de Strasbourg soutienne la Présidence autrichienne, qui a préparé un programme culturel particulièrement riche et varié, clans lequel figure l’exposition d’artistes roms »Have a look into my life!«. Organisée par l’Akademic Graz avec le soutien de la Ville de Graz et en collaboration avec la Ville de Strasbourg, le Conseil de l’Europe et les associations locales, elle constitue un bel exemple de coopération. Strasbourg, capitale européenne, attache une attention particulière à la promotion des valeurs qui sont au fondement de notre identité européenne commune et que l’art permet de diffuser, en éveillant les consciences. Je souhaite plein succès à cette remarquable exposition, qui démontre la vigueur et la résonance de l’art Rom, grâce à une scénographie tout à fait impressionnante.
